Since our initial letter to the Prime Minister in September 2024, our campaign has been moving forward as we continue to demand accountability and transparency in the handling of the Lucy Letby case. Many of you have been following our concerns about the Lucy Letby case closely. Today, we are updating you on our latest actions and providing further insight into the steps we are taking to hold the system to account.
Our Ongoing Concerns
As many of you know, in our original letter, we raised serious concerns about the evidence presented in the Lucy Letby trial, including about how the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) presented novel causes of death that contradicted the original post-mortem findings—seemingly without the involvement of the original pathologists or the coroner. We argued that these discrepancies, and the way evidence was handled, are matters of public interest that cannot be ignored.
A Reply from the Government
In November 2024, we received a reply from the Minister of State at the Ministry of Justice (MoJ). Although the response confirmed that the Government is aware of the issues raised, it did not adequately address our key issues—particularly regarding the CPS’s handling of the medical evidence—which we believe has significant implications for public safety and justice. We therefore felt compelled to take further steps to ensure that our concerns are properly investigated.
Our Latest Actions
We have now sent follow-up letters to:
The Minister of State (MoJ), the Rt Honourable Sarah Sackman KC MP, to reiterate our concerns and call for:
A Judicial Review into the CPS’s actions in presenting alternative causes of death that contradicted the original post‐mortem findings.
An expanded mandate for the Thirlwall Inquiry to examine how and why the original pathologists and the coroner failed to identify malfeasance—and the correct cause of death—if the trial’s “new” causes are indeed correct.
The Attorney General, the Rt Hon Lord Hermer KC, to bring these issues to his attention given the serious questions raised by the handling of medical evidence in this case by the CPS.
International Expert Panel Report & Thirlwall Developments
Our latest actions are strongly supported by the findings of the 14-member International Expert Panel’s report (released on 3 February 2025), based on their review of all medical records and witness statements presented at trial. This report reveals significant discrepancies in the causes of death or collapse used at trial compared to those identified by the panel. Similarly, the Thirlwall Inquiry has shown that the causes of death first established by the original post-mortems were generally aligned with the findings of the panel. This suggests that the introduction of alternative theories at trial—without the involvement of the original pathologists or the coroner—raises serious concerns about the integrity of the processes used in the case.
These findings directly support our calls for a Judicial Review of the CPS's actions and an expanded Thirlwall Inquiry to investigate the handling of the case and the evidence involved.

Why This Matters
Our campaign is not about interfering with the judiciary—it is about safeguarding public confidence in the criminal justice system and protecting healthcare professionals from systemic failings. When official causes of death are replaced by considerably different theories without a formal process in order to prosecute an individual for a series of murders, it raises grave questions about the processes that allowed such discrepancies to occur, furthermore it raises serious questions about forensic accountability and public safety.
